Strange as it may seem, the author of Proposition 74, Assemblymember Bonnie Garcia, is now refusing to campaign for it.
"I'm staying right here in my district," she told the Desert Sun. "Early on in this thing, I was not asked," she continued "I'm not unhappy about it, but I'm not going to run down there and beat the door down once the Governor has decided this is part of the reform agenda."
Garcia also turned down the Governor's request to co-chair a statewide Latino coalition campaign for his ballot measures.
She also blasted the introduction of a bill by Sen. George Runner, R-Antelope Valley, with the Governor's backing that addressed merit pay but also required a 10-year probation period for new teachers.
"I thought that was over the top," Garcia said of the 10-year probation.
